Default General Staff - other ranks Schirmmütze

    Hi

Back from a militaria fair this weekend. I had a hot tip that there was a reichswehr cavalry cap for sale with a dealer from Germany. sadly turned out not to be ....

However, the good news was that I found this little beauty tucked away in a cabinet.

It had been upgraded to an officers cap but with a post war chin cord so I thought i would change that for an original but upon lifting the sweatband there was a gepruft stamp....so I decided to put a leather three piece chin strap back on it.

The cap was a bit dirty but cleaned up nicely in the washing machine on a low spin (only joking)...

The Gepruft stamp reads clearly but the unit marks are sadly not so. I can make out 3/h??t/1 ANY SUGGESTIONS WELCOME as what the stamp may be.

The celluloid is complete and the makers details are....

    Hans Klementz
    Mutzen fabrik
    Hute-Mutzen-militaireffeketen
    Insterberg-Ostpr
    Mulenstrasse 1 Gegrundet 1882

(apologies to the german speakers for my lack of umlauts)

The remains of the foam sponge are clearly visible where it once had been..a paradox of collecting in that the sad demise of a piece of the hat is also a benefit in helping guage its authenticity !

    Comments as always welcomed.

    cheers

    tony

Wow, wow, WOW! You really scored on this one. First of all, Generalstab EM/NCO are much rarer than their Offizier counterparts. What makes yours extra special is the Prussian maker--anything from a Prussia is very rare. This is only the 3rd example I have seen from this maker.

    Congrats!

cheers ade, came from the fair at kent show ground this sunday. It was a good deal as well, bought it 10 minutes after the show finished in the car park as it was being packed away.,.....so I guess it was technically a car boot sale buy !

What a great find Tony! It could be Gen'l Staff or it could be Veterinarian - either way it is a very scarce waffenfarbe, I only know of one other. Congratulations!
