    Hello all

I hope to get your opinions on this Summer cap and if you think it's legit or not? I've studied a few references and had a look on here but they are not something I'm hugely familiar with. The markings on the liner just say that it's waterproof, which I understand is in keeping with Kriegsmarine caps very rarely having any manufacturer marks.

    Thank you.

I have never seen that wasserdicht tag before (but I see new things every day in this hobby).
Unusual to see a waterproof lining in an officer cap--most are just rayon.
Chinstrap is not standard, as it is a LW EM/NCO type.
The pasteboard in these is usually treated/stiffened gauze or celluloid, and this is the first I can recall seeing with buckram.
That being said, I like it more than I don't.

OK - so that's definitely some food for thought! Thank you for letting me know about the pasteboard, another thing I didn't know. Much appreciated (again).

    Hello Caroline,
I'm no specialist for Kriegsmarine but this specimen has several issues for me. The white cover doesn't have any piping and it isn't detachable but reaches down below the black centerband. What is the colour of the lowest ring of fabric (the one where the visor sits) - dark blue or black? There is some different lining (dark blue) behind the lining with the Wasserdicht-tag (black?). The whole construchtion, as Stomemint said, with this sort of buckram, reminds me strongly of British caps. (See here, post # 28: Kriegsmarine Visor Thread) IMO something was done with this cap. Can you show us a close-up of the Wasserdicht tag and the torn lining there? Hopefully for you I'll stand corrected soon.

OK - super intriguing, you might be right about it being messed about with, what a shame The lowest line of fabric is black.

Here are some extra photos - I've pulled the blue lining at the tear back as far as I could without further damaging it. Grateful for further thoughts.

I suppose that the Wasserdict-tag with the old flags and the Kaiseradler was put in there by somebody who doesn't speak German - stonemint has already mentioned that it actually doesn't make sense. Furthermore why should there be an imperial tag in a 3rd Reich cap. The stuffing material looks good, on the other hand - it certainly is an old(er) cap. Waiting for the KM-specialists, I'm eager to know what all that is about.

Shame on me - sometimes one doesn't see the most obvious things! My excuse is that I don't know a thing about insigns so I don't even take a closer look.

In the first picture the eagle looks like it's about to come off.

Yes, that looks like an Imperial Wasserdicht tag.
At the same time, the oakleaves on the visor are correct, and the visor looks like it has been attached forever.
Caroline--any signs that the visor has been transplanted from another cap?
