Looking for help on M43 or 42 cap

Hello all. New to this board and glad to find it. A friend of mine just purchased a cap and we are trying to figure it out. It has red piping and a Luftwaffe eagle. The buttons in front snap not loop. The side of the cap has two small holes where it appears to have had a emblem of some sort. It is marked K-1448 on the inside. Does anyone know what this is?

Normally I would ask for more pictures but I am afraid your friend has purchased a post war put together of some kind. It certainly isn't WWII. Sorry.

Thank you for the reply. I had suspected some foul play but wanted to be sure. Have any idea what the marking inside could be ?
