I have just bought this fantastic visor cap from Peter and Hans at Military Antiques Stockholm
A rare LW visor.
Superb cap with a very rare piping, congratulations on a great pick up.
I have a nice service worn example, (I will show a couple of photos here), as a comparison with yours.
Mine has a Feldpost Number which was for a Luftwaffe Bau (Construction) unit, specifically
Luftwaffen Bau-Battaillon 14/VII. This unit was based in Munich, and the Feldpost Number for this
particular unit was for the time period 1 October 1940 to 27 February 1941.
Cheers
Bob
Both are beautiful caps, gents.
IMO, LW EM/NCO visors are seriously underappreciated.
“Show me the regulation, and I’ll show you the exception.”
From a thread on the WAF, this was contributed by 'GaryB' :-
The RLM, which was established in March 1935, wore black Waffenfarbe up until June 1939 at which time RLM assigned
personnel switched to wearing their basic branch color.
Construction units were assigned black Waffenfarbe in December 1939.
Additionally, as of March 1942, members of the Luftwaffe assigned to Luftschutz units wore black Waffenfarbe.
These men primarily served a liaison role between the Luftwaffe and Luftschutz.
I missed your post above Stoney, was chasing up some info from the WAF, thanks mate, I agree, they are rather under-rated, especially the colours other than
the big 3 (Flak, Flight and Sigs).
A bit more from 'Ramjet' re black Waffenfarbe:-
The Luftwaffen-Bauverbände wore black according to Luftwaffen-Verordnungsblatt 39, Nr. 4, from 22. 12. 1939.
With LV 43, Nr. 127, from 4. 1. 1943 the Pionierbataillone of the Luftwaffen-Felddivisionen were also assigned the black colour.
A great pickup, but I did not see it listed on the website; in fact, it seems that they have not had an update for some time.
Only three cloth headgear are listed on the website currently. Did I miss something?
