Does the netting come off of that summer model ?

No, it doesn't come of ,i just showed it as a completed summer helmet ,note the measurement helmet has a short connection cord and the completed helmet has a long cord wrapped up.

used in the manufacturing process to get
a uniform fit/size.........?

Hi Steve, I guess that would be the answer,a pilot or crew member would have them custom made for a perfect fit......Dave H
