Luftwaffe officer's Schirmmütze

Article about: My one and only Luftwaffe officer's cap. It's an ERel Privat, which you can just make out under strong light, given the lack of ink, just an impression on the celluloid. It also has the late

    Actually, there is no stitching to be seen from the outside for the eagle. It's sewn from the inside, in two straight lines. The cloth backing to the eagle is totally smooth; I guess my photos aren't that good.

    Bob, that is textbook Erel eagle attachment. I vote original eagle, originally sewn. Keep in mind this is a late-late war Erel--insignia was not consistent as it was pre- and early-war.

    Thanks very much; believe me, this eagle looks as if has always been on the cap.
    I really like this cap; just wish hat the sweatband wasn't so tattered!

    I took a chance and carefully pulled back part of the fragile sweatband, and was rewarded with a stamp for 3 August 1943. Not as late war as I thought.
