Salty? It is held together by salt! I'd leave it as is. Take good care of it and try not to handle it too much. You might want to invest in a decent hat box and covered display.

Haha, yes, it's been around but the price was quite good, I think. It is a solid piece in hand, actually. The visor is secure and its form and construction remain firm. The only unfortunate aspect is the holes on top.
