I reckon maybe a police (Bavarian) or customs officials mountain cap.........just a guess but it is certainly post ww1 and probably pre ww2.....

Looks as if a political eagle, first pattern, has been on it at some point.

Thats exactly what was on it. I took it off to list it on EBan.

It is the pre-war Customs Baschlikmütze that was carried over into the early TR.
