Every hat in this thread is a good one. The difference between these hats is private-purchase vs issue pieces, and time of construction. The Krebs is mid- to late-war private purchase.

The Lubstein above is a contract cap (Lieferjahr=year of contract delivery, ie, 1939). The private purchase ones generally cost more (from dealers) than the issue ones, as they are higher quality, and more scarce.
The Lubstein piece is a lovely one, and if I were in the market, that is the one I would go for.

Listen to Stone-he Knows his stuff! That Lubstein is a early/pre-war beauty. One key to remember in this hobby is Quality over quantity. Even if it takes longer, Always buy the Best that you can afford. It will make the difference between a collection of alot of mediocre ho-hum stuff and that of a collection to impress and gain future value. You will thank yourself down the road!

Welcome to the world of caps ! Artillery then an Infantry cap where my first buys.

Always tricky starting out and the choice can be be-wildering but one safe option would be look on the e stand for a visor.

at least you will be safe buying a good one !

Always post here before you buy for an honest review as well.........could save you a lot of $.

HI again guys! well after carefull budget minded searching I came along these two visors, the first one is a army mountain troop officer, and the second is a luft nco flight visor, they both have some wear but still look nice and cost 550 each, do they look ok? no fake alarms I hope. Thanks again for the help, I would buy you all a beer if I could!

The first LW Flak example is crushed - kinda looks cool. I think you can get something decent in the $400 to $500 range as noted. I like to hang around militaria shows late on Sunday as folks are getting itchy to drive home with more cash in their pockets and less to carry. You can make (reasonable) offers and get a better deal with cash and carry. It also gives you the opportunity to see the item up close rather than depnding upon photos. Got an early Heer Feldmütze with artillery soutache for $225 that way. NH

    Hi

Don't buy the mountain troop officer. The air vents point to post war cap made to look TR.

Lufti cap looks ok but I would wait for a better condition one to appear at that price.

If you are still looking for a starter cap I have an Erel made administration officers cap for sale at £375 if that helps ? pm me and I will send pics or post them here if you want other opinions. No problem.

    cheers
