Yes, very rare, as they were an expensive extra-cost option. There are many fakes of the embroidered wreath, but I have yet to see one that matched the quality of the originals.

HOWEVER, original loose bands with the wreaths direct-embroidered on the band are in existence, and (as usual) most have ended up on superfakes.
The Saris book includes the price list for such caps and, sorry to say, the embroidered wreath feature does not strike me as having been all that costly. See: p, 98 of Saris Vol III. The cap with the metal badge was about RM 9 and the one with the embroidered badges was RM 11. A white Lw general's cap was expensive at around RM 22, I think. The average overcoat cost around RM 55.

    Stonemint,
I applaud your constant endeavours to provide a comprehensive view of Third Reich headgear. To add to your efforts here is a picture of Wagner wearing his new white hat with wreath in June 1940.

A really nice Gau PL Form 2 visor that is on Jeff Clark's site right now. The maker is Heinrich Balke of Bremen (RZM #161--thanks, D)

Let's see if we can get this thread going again.

Early Form IV by Carl Bangert of Koblenz. Note the bullion cords and the leather sweatband:

Arran, most white-tops seem to have been worn by Reichsleiters or Gauleiters--most appear to have the bullion wreath:

    Default Form IV Ordensburgen Schirmmütze

These hats (as best we can tell) were limited to the Ordensburgen during the war years.
What distinguishes them from regular Reichsleitung Form 4 visors are 2 things: the existence of grommets, and the use of lemon-yellow piping (the color of signals for WH) in lieu of the golden-yellow (same as WH Kav) found on Reichs-level visors.

I have owned several of these over the many years, but they were all unissued, so in that sense, this one is an exception, in that it was obviously worn.

According to our own Bob C, the unissued ones were found at Vogelsang by the US Army at the end of the war, which is why they often seem to be primarily found here in the USA.

Almost every lemon-yellow grommeted visor seems to have been made by Clemens Wagner (RZM # 4).

Like most wartime CW visors, these have high peaks, a deep saddle, and Celleon chincords:
