If they have side shields, they should not have an emblem on the front, IMO. Km officers and also less commonly Heer and Luftwaffe officers might have the appropriate eagle on the front, though any original tropenhelms with this feature are uncommon.

Well Nuno, that link tells us very little about the type of skull used, however there have been some examples found that have three insignias attached and its thought that there have been two reasons for that, 1. a field applied badge.2. a GI or servicemans addition post war, you have to think of the context in the way they are applied ie heer insignia with either SS , kreigsmarine or luftwaffe insignias on the front doesnt make much sense, nor does a silver coloured skull being placed on a troppenhelm during combat, its a snipers target, there may be some that have insignias relating to each other, but mixing branches makes no sense

I agree that the examples of these you see with the extra insignia were probably Vet done at the time, though pictures exist of Italians with extra badges attached to their sun helmets. A few examples exist of Germans adding extra badges to their caps, but never seen it done with a tropenhelm.

One thing about tropenhelms is that they were not supposed to be worn in the front line, and the Germans mostly stuck to this, though you do see gun crews wearing them, whilst the Italians used them in combat conditions with Infantry and gunners wearing them.

The tropenhelm looks pretty salty, but the skull looks mint and might be a fake, though hard to tell for certain from these pics. Almost certainly recently put together, IMO. He needs to post better pics of all the insignia and where the pins come through into the inside.
