Default SS RZM mütze tag, unissued.

This subject is outside my "comfort zone".

Could someone help me with more info?

    Is this original?
    What could it be worth?

    PS
I did the classic test (burn a thread), and it is cotton and not polyester.

    Looking forward for some feedback.

I am not optimistic about yours. You would have to compare it in hand to a real one.

The prototype was published by Mollo in the late 1960s and has been used as a template for fakes every since.

If the cotton is heavier than the original, then you have your answer.

Also, these had a serial number put on them via the RZM.

    Thank´s for your reply Friedrich-Berthold,

I know for a fact, that this came from a factory in Hamburg, in the 70ies.
This could be a very fine replica...

Do you know if the RZM number stamp was "stamped" on, before the tags went to the manufacture of uniform, caps etc?

I believe the bottom serial number came from the RZM as such. The upper numbers for licenses, retail outlet etc were done by the respective firms, etc.

Mollo published his vol. 1 with these images in 1968.

Mine is of the weight of the others, but I did not pay much for it.

    Thanks again!

I did get the tag as a present from a friend and old time collector.
For me this is more of an opportunity to collect more knowledge regarding this subject.

I wish I could say for absolute certain it is real, but I think it is likely a fake.

You really have to compare it to an extant, authentic piece in a cap.

The real ones are quite light, and not burlap like.

The devil is in the detail.

The tags were also faked in the III, Reich, in fact.

You are quite right, the devil...

I could be wrong, but there was, or is, a rumor that American collectors created this unissued, never worn, direct from the tailors box, item during the 70ies. Then they sold it to European collectors as; out of the woodwork findings?

The Mollo books gave rise to a new wave of fake SS regalia of all kinds, especially insignia, but also trumpet banners and more.

There is always too much "out of the woodwork" material for my taste. When it comes to SS things, I prefer old collections that are liquidated.
