    Default Tropenhelm Opinions

Gday, I picked up this Tropenhelm recently in a small town nearby. Its very rare to find T.R. items locally so i grabbed it. I initially thought it was a veteran trophy, but being a 2nd pattern tropenhelm thats probably unlikely.

Its a little rough compared to others i have looked at, but appears to be complete. the maker is JHS.

A lot of staining around the inside of the sweatband suggests it might have been used and these were used in hot countries, just not many in Afrika, though some were towards the end of the campaign and also some of these are 1941 dated and are contemporary with the 1st pattern. They were often only used for dress occasions such as medal parades or funerals and might not have the same sort of wear as other items.

The brim damage is commonly seen on these as they have a metal rod under the leather and will happen to many of them regardless of how they have been stored since the war.
