Isn't the eagle a political eagle? The cockade looks much more worn than the shiny wreath. The insignia just doesn't seem like it goes together.

Have seen this cap many years ago (possibly even the same one),
but cannot remember what it was. Maybe I made notes, but....
The eagle is an army eagle, which does not match the wreath.
The cockade and eagle look older, the wreath is quite new.
I even do not know if it were the same insignia twenty years ago.
Eagle looks gold colored on my monitor. But, I'll defer to you guys on that point.
Edit: Doh, I was so hung up on the color, I didn't even pay attention to what type of eagle it is. My apologies for the confusion. Very much a Heer eagle.
It's the patina. Possibly a Neusilber version!!

Are there any empty holes in the pasteboard from prior insignia?

This one is in the unreferenced Weimar visors thread. I also remember a few years back one of the French dealers, Bernard M...or someone like that, had a visor he was selling as early TR general staff with a red band and red piping......was this the one you saw Wim ?
cheers
Tony
