Re: Waffen SS schutzemutze insignia used on a Alter Art Feldmutze
The beret was apparently used in garrison wear well beyond 1941, at least if the photos in the French picture book on Division Hohenstaufen are to be believed. The key with this image of this chap with what surely are SS Pz beret insignia on the field cap is to look at his comrades, all of whom seem to have sort of cobbled together headwear, some of which I would wager was made behind the lines in something other than the Lubstein firm or August Mueller or retailed in the SS Kleiderkasse.
An interesting image, and one of many from the years 1942 and 1943 that show Panzermaenner der Waffen SS (...und des Heeres). More interesting than the headwear are the marks of war on these mens' faces, which are far more powerful and persuasive to me than anything else.

Great pic Ade, and I agree too, I think the insignia is from the beret as well.
Best wishes

I wouldn't say that the eagle is a armeagle..

Re: Waffen SS schutzemutze insignia used on a Alter Art Feldmutze
The eagle and skull are from the SS panzer beret.
What a wonderful hat. I hope that it someday surfaces.
