Just because it can be restored doesn't mean that it should and the reasons are numerous and never black and white.

Thanks BenVK for your your aid. It seems that age also plays a factor on deciding to such items repaired. I along with my friends, ages 18-20 are amateur collectors of ww2 militaria, and none of us want to leave it in bad shape. Whereas my grandparents, who partook in the armed service during ww2 keep on telling me to leave the items as they are. Seems kind of psychological in my opinion.
