    After 1960, the DDR switched to the Staatswappen cockade, and after 1965 they dropped bullion insignia in favor of the cheap metal alloy sta-brite insignia. It all went downhill from there--plastic visors/sweatbands, vinyl sweatdiamonds, and polyester-wool blend with foam padding and a teller shape.
