When first I visited the Blue Hills, we parked the car and walked around on the hills immediately after arrival.
Having driven thousands of clicks, we were a bit groggy (my only excuse).
Right after getting out of the car, I walked a short distance and and noticed something in the undergrowth on the hillside.
I picked it up and per reflex thought 'Aha, a knob for a drawer in a cupboard' and tossed it to the side into the undergrowth where it came from.
It then dawned on me, that it most likely was the top of an egg grenade having been overlooked by thousands of people (or placed there as a spoof).
I thought about going back and searching for it, but it was futile*
A harbinger of all the relics still dotting the vicinity of the Hills.
There are many relics still there, but every time I see an egg grenade, Im reminded of having been an oaf (groggy, but thats not much of an excuse).
...cant talk about it now.....still smarts.....*SIGH*

*Its not allowed to search the Hills/use a detector or dig there and I would of course never do that, as that would be to desecrate the memory of those who fought there - both Axis forces and those from the USSR.

Scout, it is not allowed to dig there unless you have acquired a license from the local authorities. When i visited Narva with Paul i asked to go digging on Grenadier hill but he said that his team had a digging license but since they didn't have one for me we couldn't do it.

    Thanks. I know.
I'd never dig on the Hills - feels wrong somehow.

How ever, I like to visit the Hills. Its easy to see, how they dominated the landscape and how bitter the prolonged fighting must have been.

One time I went there with somebody who lost a close family member there. Puts the fighting and the losses on both sides into perspective.

Yes i get your point. But the same goes for every place of battles. If you dig in the Auwere it's the same with digging in the Blue Hills. As long as you respect the place and those who participated and you are not a black digger then there is nothing wrong for me.
