Well I was out of town near Lancaster in a local junk shop, and stumbled upon a German Heer belt buckle and a Japanese bayonet. I ended up getting them both for a total of $30. The Japanese bayonet was a box with all types of junk bayonets and reproductions, but it wast the least junkiest one there. Here is why, it is coated in grease! Some spots show the metal below and it is REALLY GREAT! Basically the buckle is standard Heer and the bayonet seems to be a Type (Denko 15 inch 3/4 blade). Lastly what can I use to remove the grease from the bayonet, without ruining it?
    Thanks

Sounds good, but wont it saturate the wood and leave a permanent smell?

The bayonet is nice, it'll look great once its cleaned up but I also have my doubts about the buckle, the details on it arent as crisp/sharp as ones I've seen before.

    Thanks

The buckle is as fake as the fake can be, probably ugliest I've ever seen.

That was a nice deal. The buckle as already stated in a poor fake. But the bayonet makes up for that.

Any solvent will removed the grease. As usual work outdoors. But go carefully on the wooden parts, don't soak these parts. Just carefully wipe over with a damp cloth until the grease is dissolved. It should all clean up a treat

    Cheers, Ade.

Hi JH, didn't you just buy an Arisaka? That one should fit just fine. That's a great find, and price. Whenever I find stuff like that in junk stores, I get more excited than a kid on Christmas morning. Sure makes collecting fun! Can't wait to see it all cleaned up.
