Wow you have a great collection and that's a fantastic story about Karl. Obviously you are specialise in canteen collecting, but have you thought about trying to obtain the rest of his gear just to keep it all together, it seems such a shame that its now being split up.
Great thread keep up the good work.

Yes, I think about it every day, but I don't have enough interest for the other stuff and also I'm constantly short of budget

Early canteen, all parts matching, dated 35 (my earliest). Drillich juast popped up, not really my thing. If someone's interested in that, PM me!

Some more pics of the canteen in previous post. All parts marked C&CW 35; the body, cup and straps have additional markings "DRP" (Deutsches Reich Patent) and mysterious "Brm". Here together with mid war canteen (dated 43), which is unfortunately missing straps

Well, the mystery solved: DRP = Deutsche Reichspost; Brm = Bremen.

Another drinking cup made in Estonia, Tartu Alumiiniumi Vabrik (Aluminium Factory in Tartu). I have few of these, also some incomplete canteens with exactly the same markings. Which leads me to the conclusion that these canteens were only produced for a short period of time that year, for Red Army.

Just to throw a "poser" in on the thread ...

I recently picked up this canteen thinking it was possibly British of Boer war origin.
However, there has been some speculation that in fact it might be either US Indian war period, or even Confederate American Civil war.

Has anybody got any clear cut reference to this piece ?

It holds approx. 4 imperial pints.
    Diameter is 8 inches.
    Width is 4 inches.
Lanyard type cord cork retainer 21 inches.
Finger ring pull to cork 1 inch dia. soldered one piece.
Retaining ring through cork is a split pin type.
Covering is a cotton type light weight denim.
Retaining stitched over straps are 2 inches wide.

As far as I'm mainly concerned on German WWII canteens I can say nothing about yours. Try out International Militaria or maybe WWI section.

This one made my day. The engravings on the cup tell us that the soldier was POW
