My Inherited ww2 collection

All of these items my grandfather brought back from his service in the war, who then passed them down my father, who passed them down to me recently.

First off, id like to show off a display i put together of my grand fathers medals.


A photo copy of his discharge paper - the original has been since lost.

The knob cycles two filters in the scope, one that filters a small amount of light, and the other fliters quite a bit more.


The eye piece also revolves left and right (up and down like its threaded) to control what i assume is the focus of the lense.

ive made a few phone calls to record offices trying to find more, but the office where his records were housed burned down in the 80s or 90s if i recall, but i have not made much more of an effort than that. I cant find anything about the 907th Air Engineering Squadron either, but my father had mentioned my grandfather was involved in the Battle of the Bulge. I havent been heavily interested in militaria until of late, even though i an an avid fan of ww2 history.

They call these "ruptured duck pins." They were given our to servicemen and women who were honorably discharged. They also served as proof that a soldier wasn't AWOL.

The pin you are unsure of is called a 'Ruptured Duck'. It is a discharge pin
for ex-servicemen in civilian clothes, worn on the collar. Also, diamond
shaped cloth versions were worn on uniform tunics/jumpers
of all services. These are very common.
