In post no. 9 the little strip marked "1925" is identical to the year of entry stripe for the factory cell organisation NSBO (Nationalsozialistische Betriebszellenorganisation). I understand that the date was the year when the wearer was accepted into the NSDAP and was worn on the left sleeve. I was recently browsing through Angolia and Littlejohn Labor Organisations of the Reich and saw it there (p. 15).

Were these also worn by the SS?

    Regards,

    Philip

No, they weren't used by the SS; they were exclusively worn on Political Leaders' uniforms.

Allow me to add, though, that they were not restricted to NSBO members, but were worn by all PLs.

Yes, it's a "badge of service in the NSDAP" (NSDAP Verdienstabzeichen).

It was worn on the sleeve and indicates the year of commitment to the Party. 1925 is the first year of introduction of the badge. It wasn't a must to wear, only allowed.

It's not a SS item but I really wanted to add it to my collection.

Here you can see a picture with it on the arm: (militaria39-45.com)

Thank you to HPL2008 and Waban for their information. I remember first seeing the picture of the political leaders (above) in the book German Uniforms of the Third Reich, 1933-1945 by Brian Leigh Davis, with illustrations by Pierre Turner. It was published in 1980 in the Blandford Press series so I must have had it since around that year. How time flies...

Waban has some fine items in his collection - the yellow piped collar patch -- cavalry, I assume -- is a nice thing to have.
