Luke is referring to 1 / schwere Panzer Abteilung 503 , in English this is the 1st Company , Heavy Tank Battalion 503.
The gates of hell were opened and we accepted the invitation to enter" 26/880 Lance Sgt, Edward Dyke. 26th Bn Northumberland Fusiliers , ( 3rd Tyneside Irish )

    1st July 1916

Thought shall be the harder , heart the keener,
Courage the greater as our strength faileth.
Here lies our leader ,in the dust of his greatness.
Who leaves him now , be damned forever.
We who are old now shall not leave this Battle,
But lie at his feet , in the dust with our leader

I've posted these elsewhere, but thought you guys might enjoy them too. I don't actively collect autographs, but I'm a voracious reader and at times the planets have aligned to where I've had books in the presence of their authors or have acquired an autographed book. Here's a few autographed books. I'll have to do some digging and see if I can't find some others....I've got more.

    WWII veterans

SGT Bob Slaughter, D/116 Regt., Omaha Beach veteran, given to my Uncle Walter (AOM2 USS Block Island CVE21)

Richard Killblane (author) and SGT Jake McNeice, 506 PIR (This one's had a few other members of the FIlty 13 autograph it since I made this scan.)

Actually it should be 1 not I , the Germans used numbers for Kompanie Batterie sized units whereas I would usually represent an Btl sized unit !!

Just in today. Thanks again to Luke for the contact info.
The photo is a copy of one in the book and he signed that too. Probably a copyright violation but whatever. Not the worst thing I've ever done

Two more I have. One isn't military related, but the author is. I believe my cousins across the pond are familiar. The second needs no introduction.
