    Sorry I don't know what to use on it. It is most likely the old burnt gunpowder residue which is causing the reaction with the alloy. I would just wash it out with soapy water then dry it and protect it with a museum grade wax it to prevent further reaction.

    Couple of very nice 23mmx152 Russian WW2 VYa cannon shell casings. These are scarce in the UK. I have one that a Russian soldier carved an image of Mickey Mouse into its side, a souvenir from Kursk i was told. Nice items! Regards, Tim.
