Flew Lancasters over Europe. I grew up with the "World at War" and commando comics and lots of first hand stories.
Ah! Commando mags!! In the Army they were refered to as 'Officers Training Manuals'

Commando comics are almost as addictive as militaria. The vast number of them is astounding.
Like many others in this thread of a similar age, family members were vets including my father, uncles, great uncles etc of the Second World War, grand parents who remembered the Great War as teenagers and many movies and TV series around as a kid, the war was still a constant presence in the back ground of life.
I never read the 'Commando' type comics but I was a big reader of Capt W E Johns' 'Biggles' books and related series-also collected part works like Purnells 'History of the 2nd World War', 'War Monthly' etc as well as reference books in general on ships, aircraft, vehicles etc.
