These macro shots are very nice, what I would expect from a digital camera - better than a phone camera.
I usually place my medals on a black t-shirt on a windowsill in natural light (but not sunlight - so never an issue in the UK).
Sometimes you lose depth of field with super close macros - my camera has some sort of focus stacking option where it takes a burst of shots with different focal length and knits them all together. However, I've struggled to get it to work well.
