Always nice to see a Jeep I have a '42 GPW.
Do you know any of it's history?
Cheers, Ade.
I do know some history about this jeep: The original body tub was found near Ottawa, Ontario so possibly had use with the "Foresters". not sure as any and all markings were too obscure from accumulated rust.
Most of the front end of the tub - cowl, firewall, dash, hood, fenders, front seat frames are original, the floor and sides were rebuilt by hand using new sheet metal. Under one data plate on the old dash, we found a portion of original OD paint which we matched ( #34087 ). She has mechanical/electrical issues presently.
This jeep was part of a 2nd series ordered by Britain/Canada under Lend Lease during WWII, and of the 3000 contracted jeeps, 1500 went overseas. ( The first Batch were "Slat grille" - February 1942. ) This one remained in Canada for the duration............
I can post more shots of the jeep in Veterans parades etc, if anyone wishes to see.......
Thanks!
I would be happy to see more! Any pics of the restoration would also be nice to see.
Cheers, Ade.
