Thanks to all for the cordial welcome.
I was fortunate to have befriended the previous owner of these items.
This man recently passed away at the age of 92 - Godspeed.....
He served as a Belly Gunner on a B-17 and was credited with flying 50 missions. Several missions were double credit missions, such as Ploesti Romania and similar heavily fortifide areas.
I hope to obtain either the original or a copy of this gentlemand missions record.

My father-in-law served in the Navy as a Seabee in the Pacific Theater and brought back a few interesting articles - such as these trench art items, bayonet; and, three small (4-5" dia) weaved baskets - which I've tried in vain to learn more about to no avail.

*** Guess I shouldn't really call the Japanese grenade trench art, I forgot that tthey were all clustered together when I took the photo .....

the original cigarettes are still in the packaging but I forgot to get a photo of them, perhaps tomorrow.

I haven't smoked in 25 years - and don't know if I would care to light one of these up even if I still did...
