    Default Odd buckle, German?

This is another of the odd bits and bobs I received along with my M15 Adrian. I'm going to make a guess it is German? It was found in the region of Château-salins about 100km from Verdun. Clearly of alloy construction (although the 'Al Mg Si' might suggest Aluminium, Magnesium, Silicon?) it has a makers mark that appears to be a 'CG' on top of an 'A'.

Can anyone shed light of the nationality and purpose of this curious piece from the great war?

    Many thanks,
    Glenn

Hi Glenn, it is indeed German.

    Used on Tornister Packs, etc.

The design did not change and was used in WW2 as well.

    Cheers, Ade.

Thanks Adian, that's good information. Curious they would stamp the alloy content onto the piece though?

Cannot say I have seen that before on a small item like this either. But if it is WW1 it is really outside my collecting field. But the alloy content marking was certainly done on other items in WW2, like the large railway eagles.

    Cheers, Ade.
