Comparing with some other examples I think its a WW2 German sword knot.
Its a Heer Sword portepee, IIRC.
this is only a Portepee , not only to wear with the Säbel
official Form of the Heer (Army).
Portepee-Unteroffiziere (senior NCO) and Offiziere (officers) wear this Portepee to the Seitengewehr (bayonet) and the Säbel (saber).
Thanks for the responses. The crucial thing I needed to know is if this is for a sword or for a bayonet, Sleepwalker is saying its for both. So it is fine to display this with a parade bayonet?
a dress or a service bayonet
both is ok.
Hello,
I believe with the leather strap it is for the sword and not the bayonet.
Fred
the official model always has a leather strap... for bayonet and saber
it is not a matter of belving... facts exist... if possible read in the H.D.v. 123 A
the material of the strap is equal.
For the saber they use often the privat marketed big model with 3 lines of silver stitching.
This model is not a WH or a WWII Portepee... this model was used since 1924.
Hello,
After a bit more research on my part I totally concur with sleepwalker!! I believe the confusion was in the name of the item on my part!
