Blunt tip on Red Cross Daggers

Article about: my question is whether anyone knows that the daggers of the German Red Cross have blunt tip what is the purpose or use? thank you Annoyed from this ads?

    Of course there were; but they were personnel of the armed forces, not of the German Red Cross.

    HPL is spot on!

    Red cross members were not allowed to wear weapons ( geneva convention rules), so the DRK hewer got a blunt tip, so it was a tool.
    Medics in a fighting unit of course were in the front line and could carry arms.

    I just bought a Drk first aid handbook and there's a chapter on making splints in the field.
    Some of the illustrations seem to show sticks and tree sections and I was wondering how practical the hewer was ( or used in the role ) the text may elaborate but I have to translate it.. or post some pages.
