I came across this bayonet while cleaning out a relatives attic that recently passed away. Can anyone tell me what kind of bayonet it is? The blade is marked: Siegfried Waffen E.Pack Sohne Solingen. Another loaded question: There is some surface pitting/ light rust on the blade cover rivets and some crud on the eagle's head base. Should I clean it up some, and if so, what should I use?

Thanks for looking and for the assistance.

It's a WWII German Fire Police dress bayonet for a K98...

They normally go anywhere from $50 to $150 depending on condition.

With regards to the pitting and surafce rust on the sheath, you may want to leave this alone. I sometimes use a toothpick and some gun oil to remove built up surface rust around bolts and rivets, but don't go too crazy or you could do more harm than good. And never use solvents or steel wool....this is a big no-no!

    Nice find by the way!
