I just stumbled across this Rudolf Buechel insignia. What is it and what do you know about it? My grandfather, Rudolf Buechel, fell in Russia in 1943...

Hi Johanna...welcome to the forum,,,first I will give you some bio data on the edged Weapon maker Rudolf Buechel of Solingen-Merscheid. This firm was established in 1923..not really an early producer than most from mid to late 1900s..this firm produced SA Army and 2nd Model Luftwaffe daggers....along with the NS dress bayonet...20cm and 25cm.
This company is till in operation today and still in the Merscheid area of Solingen.
Now the name itself Rudolf Buechel may be hard to link the 2 together as the same person that fell in Russia..or a possibility of a relative with that name also. What must be taken also into consideration..is that as common the name here in the US ...."Smith and Jones'..might be the same for Buechel. I am not familiar with the commonality of the Buechel name but the thought must be taken.
it would be pleasing for our collecting community here if you could gives us some background on your grandfather...which some amazing things have happened with one small link of information. Let us know your thoughts or any information you might have. Regards Larry

It's not the same name. The dagger maker is 'Buchel' not 'Buechel'. The name is actually mis-spelt 'Buechel' on the Makers Mark page of German Daggers.com. Sorry Johanna, but there is no link between the two.
