Never thought I would want to keep an SA dagger if I found once since they are somewhat common but I really like this one.
Found out on another forum the youth knife is Bulgarian which is very interesting.
Sadly the KM button is gone and Im having difficulty opening the blade.

Hi Vix!!..Your SA dagger is a late period example with an early period grip. Looks to be in great condition and a good grip to crossguard fit. rare to see that On late SAs.
Interesting Bulgarian Youth knife as these were awarded to those youth Allied with Germany at the time. HJ / NPEA author Ralf Siegert, has recently released his reference on the subject including "Foreign Youth service,,daggers" Interesting reading and comparison, as the style of the knife remained the same in other countries,,except for the Grip logo,,and the Blade dedication. here is a link to a past thread if your interested in obtaining this reference....http://www.warrelics.eu/forum/dagger...cember-229419/

The 2nd Model Kriegsmarine dagger has some issues of loss,, but still original. The grip wire is missing and the side screw on the side of the scabbard is not original to it. This scabbard was opened at one time,,most likely for the same reason you stated as there is no release button on the crossguard to pull the dagger out. The release button is spring activated by pushing it inward,,so if you can find something sturdy to poke into the hole maybe it might release,,but then again the silver screw on the side of the scabbard also says that,,that attempt was already made.

I would not put a high value on the Kriegsmarine dagger although original with some gold loss to the pommel eagle,,this dagger has been opened and messed with.
The late SA is in great condition and depending upon collector desirability,,the worth could start at $500 US,,JMO
The Bulgarian dagger although rare to find,,I am not positive of its authenticity as this example is new in knowledge to me. I am hopeful for some feed back by our HJ collectors for a better assessment. Thanks for posting these here. Regards Larry

A very nice looking SA . The RZM code M7/ 49 is for the maker Friedrich AS Herder .

There are IMO some questions surrounding this knife, as there are a lot more in circulation now than there were years ago, with a number in as new or near new condition. And it seems now that an etched logo version has been added to some previously seen stamped ones from a German maker. And that was just from a preliminary look as a non-HJ specialist. FP

Thanx for the replies and info guys!
I love the SA, its such a nice example.
As for the Bulgarian knife, I purchased it with the SA.

Since both are in nice condition and cared for I hope there are no issues with it just because the condition seems to be too good.

Both dagger and knife were extremely affordable so Im very happy overall either way.

You better put the KM dagger the otherway around in its scabbard, that realy looks better!

Nice finds. On the kriegsmarine there is supposed to be a button on the cross guard to release the blade from the scabbard. It appears to be missing or broken. It you can press in on that spot on the cross guard with something that should unlock it from the scabbard. Hope this helps. Best Regards, Robert

The KM just wont release....maybe the button mech is messed up or Im thinking it could also have something to do with the dagger being inserted wrongly.
