After the war the locals were ordered to surrender all nazi items/weapons, many of them would pile up swords/knives/weapons of all kinds in the middle of the street for the US tanks to drive over them, I can hear the crunching now lol.

War trophies are often deliberately damaged, to show the victories.

I believe none of those flags were actually destroyed, they are displayed under a plexiglass floor in a museum near stalingrad, not sure about the name but I have seen the photo's on here from a forum member who visited there, someone correct me if im wrong.
