It is not a dagger. It is a Police sidearm. Like a bayonet but no mortise slot or working button. It can not be mounted on a rifle. Rich A. in Pa.

Very nice original. The black leather scabbard would indicate town police or Schutzpolizei.

Yep. Totally legit police dress bayo.

As was mentioned, this example is not slotted and is merely a dress sidearm. And a nice one at that. Finding decent police bayos who's scabbard leather is in good shape is getting tougher and tougher. This pieces scabbard leather is in great shape- a big plus with regards to the bayo. Often NS era police bayos were cut down from slotted bayos used in an earlier time, then the wreathed grip eagle was affixed to the stag grip plate.

All you need now is to find a suitable frog and a portepee as an accoutrement and you'll be set.

    Nice piece.
