its a 70s fake im affraid, sorry,

Why is it a fake? Is the entire object fake or are the SS markings fake?

Is it a misrepresented newer item? older item? what's the deal?

    they were never issued ,ever

What I have heard is that they were never "adopted" as a standard issue item. Wether or not they were in use "unofficially" is a different matter altogether.

I would not necessarily dismiss it as a fake. I would not; however, accept it as a standard issue item, and I would put no merit to the markings.

if you want to buy it, and if your happy with one, thats all that matters, ive said what i think
I think you are missing the point I am trying to make.

After the war it is common knowledge that these knives were embellished for sale using parts and products produced during the war specifically to appeal to the Occupying forces.

The design of the knife dates back to 1898 and was produced in Germany during both World Wars.

As an example of a WW2 era German Pantographic Knife is where the item's interest lies. It being festooned with all manner Third Reich Embellishment lends nothing to it's value and is without a doubt a post war addition to attract interest and higher prices.

I would think that finding a knife such as this in a German WW2 vets estate would be quite possible; especially if he was "heer".

    That's just my opinion

    Hi Jan,
You are right thirty years ago there wasnt any site like this,
I remember useing the phone quite a lot, looking through magazines and visiting collectors for my stuff.
We are very lucky to have such a forum, I have collected for over forty years, and as Phil says about the knfe above i have never seen an original one of them that was issued. Someone had a good idea and a lot of people bought them.

As already stated, these are postwar made fantasy items.

    Cheers, Ade.

At the risk of being branded a "knucklehead" I am going to defend that style of knife and ask for clarification. I realize, know and accept that the knife pictured is a fantasy piece; however, my contention is over the style of the knife.

Here is a link from another forum that dicusses this style of knife:

    Pantographic knife: what's the gimmick? - BladeForums.com

I would certainly not discredit the knife if it was found in a vets belongings and had not been "Nazi'd Up". I would accept it as more of a "personal item" than a piece of "issue"
