Hi Tom, the red on white I am certain is bad. Not liking the orange one either. The paper reinforment backing to that is indicative of a fake.

Many thanks Ade, for helping me save my money.The two you mention are identical apart form colour, so it probably stands to reason if one's bad... What about the pink on black? Aren't these usually found with a city's name included above eagle?

Hi Tom, indeed, the Feuerwehr one is often found with the town/city name on it. I think these were intitially produced without the name, then that was added later before being sewn to the uniform.

I am sure Martin will be able to advise on this one as he specialises in Police gear.

Sorry it took me so long, I was busy this weekend.

Lets take this in sections.

#1 Red on white. If this was real it would be a very nice addition to any collection. This eagle is trying to be a traffic police eagle. Most often they are found with district names, but it is no surprise to see them without. Right off the get go I can see the backing material is totally wrong.

#2 Fire police eagle. I'm actually somewhat on the fence with this, its one that MAY be real, but considering its condition and that it is with these other eagles I would walk away from it. Most of the fire eagles do have district names or factory/ large factory names on them, but there were many made without. As Ade said, many eagles were made first and then the district added later. The only exception to this rule is Schweinfurt, which made their own eagles and district names, as all their eagles (city, rural, municipal, fire) are slightly off in color and have a different style text.

#3 Gendarmerie/ Feldgendarmerie Eagle. Totally wrong in every regard. The background material is the wrong color and consistency. The stitching is wrong and the eagle could actually be considered a bad replica at that.

Below I have attached pictures of real eagles of each of the ones you have posted.

The first is a traffic police eagle with district name. Then I have attached three pics of fire eagles. One with district, one factory, one plain. Then I attached two pics of Feldgendarmerie/Gendarmerie eagles, one unissued, one tunic removed.

Martin, thank you very much for the detailed reply. Just what I was looking for.
The guy selling these was also not positive that they were good so I thought I'd better ask. I'm not about to buy any more fakes.
