To me it looks like a good one. The way to really tell is to know EXACTLY what size this is.
They were all made 15.75" wide. If this is a cast copy then it would be less then that.
Some of the cast ones that I have seen are only 15". So if this is 15.75" wide. Then it's real.
Why it was painted and repainted??? is the paint period??? Don't know.

Also here is one that was sold on John's website. It is now in his archives.
It also has the not so neat swaz molding on the back.

Thanks Curt. Did pull out tape and it was about 15 1/2. John and I reviewed pictures. Price of 650 to 750 and not liking the over coats of paint lead me to pass. Thanks for the input.

Yes, the wingspan for a Reichspost bus eagle should be about 40.0 cm
(not about 38.0) and normally do not have a coating at front. During the
war they were occasionally painted greenish.

The group of photos, as shown by Walkwolf, all are Reichsbahn eagles.
Postal eagles do not have relief at the reverse (leaves for the wreath up too
the claws); railway yes (leaves from the wreath down from the claws)!
