I've always considered these to be pre-38 Red Cross buckles. There are many different variants out there. Here's my only example for the sake of reference. Yours is quite original - no worries there! Looks nice!
    Thanks for sharing!
    Cheers!

Sascha, always hard to judge, if these are not pre war made. But in my opinion, it looks like Weimar period.
Luckily, I have an RZM marked Red Cross buckle. I will add this to my post.
    cheers Thomas

Thanks for your answers, I know it´s very difficult to classify this typ of buckle.
    I think there is a 50/50 chance

    Best,
    Sascha

My apologies for a late comment to your question, however I think that you have already had a great response from the boys.

As you know and as Guido has so kindly reminded us, a design (with others) that is still manufactured today and probably, was made from 1945 onward. Every so often we see a lovely indication of a pre 1938 make by the presence of an RZM mark, as shown by Thomas (I have seen one of these Red Cross buckles marked RZM 24 and I still have images). Marked examples are very rare though and more often than not, we have to use our instinct.

You say 50/50, although I think that there is a higher chance that this Red Cross buckle is pre 1938.

    Regards,

    David
