Hi Guys, an often forgotten campaign where Nazi Germany suffered it's first taste of defeat. Narvik was a hard fought battle and a close run thing.

    Anniversary of Battles of Narvik

Norwegian, British, Polish and French Veterans have made the journey to Narvik this week to attend the commorations.

I am lucky enough to own a flag taken from a German ship in the battle of 1940. It was taken by a Royal Navy Officer who served on HMS Cossack.

    Cheers, Ade.

Great momento there Ade, I remember talking to a chap whose father was in the Norwegan campaign, he contracted TB during his time there and was invalided out in 1941 and died several years later, he was very bitter about how the British side of the campaign was waged.

    Nice one Ade!

There were many other setbacks for the Germans during the occupation... Many of these stories are not mentioned at all before now.. I have some stories written down somewhere, ill see what I can.

    Here is one story.....

About 200 Geramn soldiers lost there lives here.
Little is known about the fighting at "Grødalen - Norway" in may 1940.
The 2. of may 1940 200 Norwegian resistance men were dug in forming a
horse shoe up in the woods overlooking a gravel road. Then suddenly they
heard a battalion consisting of 550 German soldiers closing in inn cars and on motorcycles.
The Germans had cannons and stuff with them.

The fighting at "Grøndalen" is barely mentioned in the history books. Not a single Norwegian
soldier was lost. The Germans had to retreat after the battle and the Germans
described the incident as a "Huge loss".

11 German officers were among the dead.
