Airborne Assault !!!

12th November 1942 360 men of 3 Para dropped at Bone in Algeria to capture the airfield followed on the 16th by 1 Para who dropped near Souk el Arba to support the earlier drop.

2 Para were then dropped on 29th November near Tunis .

Anybody info on any Russian Airborne ops ?

I was watching the military channel the other day & all these Russian para's were hanging on to the out side of the plane, then just sliding off, that's NUTS

I have just found this little bit of info on Russian drops...

Unfortunately, the Airborne Troops were unable to show themselves off in full measure during the Great Patriotic War because of the lack of the sufficient number of aircraft that could have transported regiments and divisions of paratroopers within a brief spell of time. Still, major landing parties were air dropped near Vyazma and Yukhnov in 1941 and 1942, and held the enemy in position to prevent Germans from moving to Moscow. Airborne units were also dropped in the subsequent Dnieper and other military operations, but on a minor scale, in contrast to major landing parties dropped by Nazi Germany and the Soviet Union’s allies Britain and the United States.

I seem to recall Turkish paratroopers dropping on Cyprus during the flare up with Greece in 1974.

Thought so...
At around 06:00, a company of Turkish paratroopers was dropped over Mia Millia, just north of Nicosia, right on top of Greek Cypriot forces approaching Geunyeli. Of the estimated 120 troops dropped, a total of 93 were killed or wounded, and 1 captured, while the rest escaped.

I love this one: the beginning of the para commando troopers:

Attack on the fortress Eben-Emael:
Eben-Emael was a Belgian fortress between Liege and Maastricht, near the Albert Canal, defending the Belgian-German border.
Constructed in 1931-1935, it was reputed to be impregnable.
But on 10 May 1940, 78 paratroopers of the German 7th Flieger (later 1st Fallschirmjager Division) landed on the fortress with gliders (type DFS 230).
One day later, they were reinforced by the German 151st Infantry Regiment.
At 13:30 h on 11 May, the fortress surrendered. 1200 Belgian soldiers were captured.
