The thing is, the list is exhaustive because everyone collects differently and may wish to use different pieces of information to catalogue their collection so I think there would be a requirement to be able to make your own fields. What would be good for a collector of Iron Crosses would be of little use to a collector of Wehrpasse for example apart from maybe date of purchase/trade and price paid.
Yes, I agree. However there are a lot of things that are shared. For example country, year/era, civilian/military, maker/manufacturer, model/type, mark number, description, your-personal-id, condition, images, purchase info.
After those primary fields, then you can set up more custom specialised fields that suit you.
Currently I am interning at a local museum and am doing some collections management work. It's pricey, not really targeted to collectors, but PastPerfect software is a great tool. You can upload photos, item descriptions, etc., and have precise information.
I am considering using some software for my collection. After working at another museum and seeing how many paper records were lost over the years, having accurate information stored electronically is not only convenient but necessary. How else will my kids know what to sell the collection for!
