I took this pic of a tunic at the Australian War Memorial and It still has the dirt from Gallipoli on it
Nice to see the Australian public waving flags and cheering now, rather than the "Women-against-Rape" lesbian horde that used to throw bags of dog-shit and red paint , or the socialist University students who would spit on you and scream "Murderer" when I marched in the 80's.
That uniform was taken complete from a soldier as he came back in from the front line by Charles bean, war correspondent.
He grabbed the soldier, took everything he had on him and bagged it sll up, it has not been touched since...off course the soldier got a complete reissue....they did exactly the same thing in Iraq in 2006. The digger was out on a night OP, he was told the day he left for te OP that his uniform was going o be taken the next day...so during the night he swapped bits of kit with his section mates, do they would all have a peice of their kit in the Australian War Memorial!!!
As a Ex servicemen with PTSD, I see this quote in a different context
"Enjoy the war, as the peace will be unbearable"
