One insider tip that was given to me when I went through Basic in 1986 at Ft Bliss, TX. was, " Never be first and never be last." This goes back to what SargeTom said about staying under the Drill's radar. Good Luck! What's your MOS?

The best of British to you both Haydn and Danny!

Danny, where are you off to for your basic and what are you doing afterwards? I think things have changed alot in recent years. I was listening to a Lt Col give a speech a couple of days ago and gone are the days when they broke you as an individual and rebuilt you as a soldier. It seems to be a bit more of a softly softly approach now and individual qualities developed, not discarded.

You still get beastings but in a much more PC manner...........

That's true. Condoms are obligatory these days....

I'm off to Pirbright for my basic training, after that its off to the Royal Naval School of Marine Engineering in Gosport (I went for Marine Engineer in the RLC).... so being on a Navy dominated establishment for 49 weeks should be interesting I've been told the same sort of things you heard from that Lt Col about the methods of taking a civilian and making a soldier during my interview stage, but I guess I'll soon find out for myself what the score is Politically Correct and Risk Assessment filled beastings, can't wait

    Thanks

Remember Danny, never volunteer for ANYTHING!!!

As in:- "Anyone here musical?" "Me Corporal...!" "Good! Get down the NAAFI, they need help shifting a piano...."

I did my basic training at Pirbright in 1978 when it was the Guards Depot ! I will never forget the 'Four sisters' hills and the dreaded 'Sand Hill' !

    Enjoy your adventure guys !
