Thanks, are there any shops that you guys know of that sell lots of "dug-up" artifacts? Such as dug helmets, bayonets, shell casings, etc.

    Many Thanks,

French carboot sales??? What are those?
I think for us American it would be a fleamarket or a farmer sale where they sale their old stuff.

Go to Sainte-mere-du-mont the store is next to the main parking in the village he has good stuff and good prices I spent 11 years in Normandy so I know the area very well.If you go around Saint-lo the prices are alot better.

I was on Utah Beach a few days ago, I met some people who were metal detecting. They gave me a heavy field artillery shell they dug up and a few pieces of shrapnel and shell casings.

Do you think I will have any problems getting it back from France to the states? I know they will open up my bag because it is basically a 12 lb piece of metal, other than that do you think I will have any problems?

These are the things I am bringing back: (tell me if I will have problems with any of this)
    ALL WILL BE CHECKED:
    M3 combat knife
    muset pack
    American canteen
    German canteen
shrapnel and shell casings in clear plastic bags
    relic German bayonet
Heavy 12lb piece of artillery shell dug up on Utah (casing)

    Thanks for the help, Swayne

Just got back from Normandy from a D Day tour , i've got to say the prices around most of the Militaria shops , St Mere Eglise , Arromanches , Dead mans corner are totally atrocious , 3 times the normal price for items in the UK, with fakes and messed about relics thrown in to catch the unwary tourist .

My advice is don't even think about buying.
