December 7, 2011 marks the 70th anniversary of the Pearl Harbor attack. The Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941 -- "a date which will live in infamy," as FDR famously and rightly called it -- was a defining moment in American and world history. After unleashing a brutally imperialist campaign across much of Asia, the hyper-militarist leaders of Japan effectively declared war on the United States with a lethal early morning raid by hundreds of Japanese fighters and torpedo planes.
I have been to Pearl twice and it is a very somber time looking down on the outline of the ship and the oil liberating to the surface. So sad. This did change the course of the world though. God bless all those involved.

Sad, let us remember those who were lost and those who fought. Luckly I met a Pearl Harbor veteran. He was almost killed by a bomb in barracks. He helped his fellow Americans to the hospital that day.

I also Remember with Respect the men that were killed on that day.
America joining the war was indeed a turning point and the people of Australia were grateful that the "Yanks" came to give us a hand.

Thank you for posting great but terrible photos and as an American to realize that this was the start of a conflict that would take a terrible toll on humanity!Just about all my uncles joined the army,navyseabees,air corp and my uncle Tom was captured by the Japanese for 2 1/2 years and two others were in the Battle of the Bulge.They all came home in one piece no doubt with some horrendous memories.Thank you again for those incredible pictures.
