Early War Or Late War Militaria?
Hi
I was wondering what preferences people have when it comes early war or late war militaria.
Personally I prefer early war militaria (such as medals and badges) for me the quality in the materials (tombak, brass or copper instead of zinc) and also the finish on medals and badges was excellent.
Thanks

Re: Early War Or Late War Militaria?
Late war medals tended to be handed out by the bucket load as Germany entered endgame.
The earlier awards probably had more kudos

Re: Early War Or Late War Militaria?
I prefer early war items, as besides the reasons outlined above, my main areas of interest mostly took place early in the war and I like items that have a better chance of being there in the early periods, though I do have items from late in the war, so it is not a hard and fast rule for me.
And of course, things like King tigers and Sherman fireflies are all late war, though they are not something I collect.
Regards,
Jerry
Whatever
its just an opinion.

Some medals or badges weren't around in the early war..........!
Looking for LDO marked EK2s and items relating to U-406.....

I prefer early items for the reasons already stated. M35 lids are just superior.
However I would love a super late M45 helmet....

Hi
Interesting contributions to this thread guys.
Though others may disagree in my opinion I class early war from 1939-1941. It gives me a relativity broad collecting area.
Thanks

Re: Early War Or Late War Militaria?
I like to study the collapse of the Reich, especially the last months in the East and the battle of Berlin, and people's personal experiences during those chaotic days...
But I've found myself attracted to earlier Freikorps insignia lately...

Hi
I see what you mean there Glenn I hadn't thought about that perspective.
P.S. I would love to see some of your Freikorps insignia if you wouldn't mind.
Cheers
