Article about: Unfortunately the Irish language is dieing out because of lazyness. I live in one of the very few Gaeltacht areas where most things are done through Gaeilge. But with a lot turrism from Brit

    Agree.

    I find the question that started this thread a little strange, maybe because i am used to speak and read two different languages everyday. Langauge is not an hinder in your life, it is a golden key to open up unknown possibilities for the speaker.

    I learnt my first German from the "Commando" books !!!!!

    My late grandfather used to buy them for me, I think they used to come out monthly in batches of 4 or 5 if memory serves right. I've still got a few of the Commando "books" tucked away in a box in the loft.
    He also taught me basic German, he was fluent in the language, being one of the allied soldiers "held back" after the end of hostilities to act as interpreters etc. Probably helped in that he also looked like your "stereotypical Aryan" - fair hair with blue eyes and over 6 feet tall, (He was in the Grenadier Guards!)

    "Achtung", "Schnell" and "Gott in Himmel" were the words I learnt from reading the Commando series!

    See, I learnt pretty good German at the Commando comic language school!

    I am in my second year German at Leeds Met Uni evening classes! When I finish this year I will be at Intermediate level ! Equivalent to a GCSE! I will be spouting more Deutsch on this forum !
