"Be Humble and kind, for you may find that it was Odin you entertained"
I learnt my first German from the "Commando" books !!!!!
My late grandfather used to buy them for me, I think they used to come out monthly in batches of 4 or 5 if memory serves right. I've still got a few of the Commando "books" tucked away in a box in the loft.
He also taught me basic German, he was fluent in the language, being one of the allied soldiers "held back" after the end of hostilities to act as interpreters etc. Probably helped in that he also looked like your "stereotypical Aryan" - fair hair with blue eyes and over 6 feet tall, (He was in the Grenadier Guards!)

"Achtung", "Schnell" and "Gott in Himmel" were the words I learnt from reading the Commando series!

Alright Gary, put the books away and do some work.

We shall stick it out to the end, but we are getting weaker of course, and the end cannot be far.
