i was watching a show on the T.V and there was a show called the four rooms.
it is where you bring a rare item and see what the dealers will pay for it.
well a guy brought in a sculpture of adolf hitlers head.
and he brought it in to two dealers and they both said they didint want it.
in the next room he said he will take it for 1000 pounds!
the history behind it was that it was in a concentration camp.
as the british soldiers came in, they saw what was going on and they went crazy and distroyed everything. someone brought it back. gave it to a friend. the friend kept it for 60 years and then brings it to the four rooms, sells it for 1000 pounds to a dealer who doesent like it.
and all what the dealers said was terrible, rovolting, horrible, scary. the one positive thing a dealer said was that it was a good piece of work. but then got back on the bad things about it.
I wish some people would see good things about the war.

There are damned few good things about any war. Especially Adolf Hitler.
What strikes me as odd is the dealers attitude and the price he paid for a common era bronze. Period busts of Hitler aren't rare at all and do not fetch high prices on the world art markets.

The iron sculpture was nicely made and a good likeness.I think the dealer bought it to donate to a Holocaust museum.

Gentlemen,

The observations from the start of this post are, at best lightweight. The bust was actually a head, made of cast iron not bronze and lacking the complete back of the head and neck due to it's being smashed (apparently) by British troops on their liberating of a German Concentration camp (Belsen-Birkenau??) towards the end of the war.

The chap who was hawking it on the programme said it was given to him by a soldier who was there and bought it back to the U.K. at the end of the war. His wife refused to allow it into the house, so he passed it on to his friend who put it in his attic and then forgot about it for the next 60 odd years.

The owner took it for an evaluation and sale to the highest bidder of the four dealers on the show. He seemed to think it was worth around a couple of grand. The first two dealers refused to make an offer( Well, one offered a pound) on purely personal ethical grounds, siting it's symbolism of the ultimate personification of evil and their concerns that it would be bought by neo-nazi's as a centre piece for modern day obeyance and worship of Hitler and the ethics of nazism.

The third dealer said he would buy it for 1,000 GBP just to get it off the market and donate it to a museum so that the children of today could learn about the horror of Hitler and nazism in general. The vendor accepted, he seemed to be more interested in personal gain rather than donating it for the education of future generations, and i'm sure he probably regrets this now he has seen how he was portrayed on national t.v., but that was his choice. It was alluded that it was donated to the Holocaust museum in Israel and accepted.

Regarding the comment made by H.I.M. in his post and fellow members demands for answers to his opinions, it is worth bearing in mind that he is apparently 12 years old. I myself was chastised publically some months back by a moderator for comments i made in a similar vein of a member who it only turned out later was 16 years old. I was offered by the mod to p.m him with my reasons for chiding a fellow member. I pointed out the no.1 forum rule here Forum Rules - WW2 uniform, awards, armor, weapons history. War relics forum- collector's forum but never received a reply. Such is life.

So, if the forum rules are being allowed to be, shall we say, 'flexible', perhaps we should all pull our necks in a little, and think a little harder than we should have to in reality, just so that we don't appear to be bullying youngsters. I hope this helps and some of you understand my concerns, let's be careful out there...

I doubt that the poster intended his statement to come out like it did-no one can actually like war and it's uncountable horrors. If I read it right,I think the idea was more that people need to get past the blind hate of a past war and put their energies more to studying it and trying to understand it's facets and it's causes and realize that yes-war does,indeed,bring out the Worst in Man,but the paradox of it is,it also,bizarrely,can bring out the Best in some Men. It's in times of the extreme stress,when things are at their breaking points,that the occasional Hero rises from the chaos and shines at his finest hour,too. No one can,in their right mind,love war and glorify it. It's an exciting and thrilling time,for sure,but it is also one of the ultimate horror and terrible unthinkable devastation as well. BUT adult formats do not mean that they have anything to do with porn. That means that there are levels of adult interaction that adolescents really shouldn't be involved in. Statements made in innocence by a child can unknowingly create conflict.
The level of understanding really does have age limits.
It is my firm belief that there should be an age limit on membership. This is not middle school. It's where the big boys play.

I understand and agree with both of your posts. Even if the originator of this thread is young, he also must understand that war in any forms is ugly and horrible. Anyone who has experienced war first hand understands that fact. We all must learn from our errors in life. If not, we are doomed to repeat our follies. Youth cannot be used an excuse for stupidity that goes unaddressed..
